Murphy Bed near Golden Gate Community Park

This Golden Gate homeowner needed a guest room that could double as a home gym when visitors weren’t staying over. A queen-sized murphy bed was the ideal solution — it folds flush into a wall unit when not in use, freeing up the entire floor area. Gustavo built the unit from warm walnut melamine with a woodgrain texture that gives the room a rich, furniture-quality look.

Matching side cabinets flank the bed unit, each with four adjustable shelves for books, alarm clocks, and personal items. Integrated LED reading lights are mounted inside the upper shelves so guests have bedside lighting without needing separate nightstands. The bed mechanism uses a European-made piston system that allows one person to raise or lower the queen mattress with minimal effort.

All components were built in our Naples shop and assembled on-site in under three hours. The walnut melamine was edge-banded on every exposed surface, including the back of the folding panel that serves as the decorative face when the bed is stowed. The result is a dual-purpose room that looks intentional in either configuration.
